About

I'm interested in the design of our urban environments and the integration of native vegetation into cities and communities. Since graduating I have worked as a contractor where I wrote, mapped and contributed to projects such as feasibility studies, greenways and connections plans, proposals, strategies, and guides.

I contributed to community engagement events and created graphic layouts and renderings (Photoshop and InDesign).

I come from an arts background having worked for several years in the art department for film and television - making models, miniatures, set painting, and prop-making.

My move into landscape architecture came from seeing how the development of our towns and cities is responding to Aotearoa New Zealand’s population expantion. I'd like to be part of the creation of sustainable environments and infrastructure that will enable people to live, work and play in their communities.

ABOUT

LA—RESIDENTIAL

Residential Landscape Design

PROJECTS

2021

Conceptual landscape design for smaller sites. I use a dialed-down site analysis approach, compared to larger public sites, focusing on how people move about and intend to use their site, along with recommendations for plant species (both exotic and native) that are compatible with each location.

The following images are taken from two concept residential designs and the photos are from a separate installation.

Concept Landscape Plan

2017-2020

GREY LYNN SCHOOL

Te Rae O Kawharu Grey Lynn School has undergone an extensive rebuild, leaving the outdoor space in need of landscaping. The school sits on a 16,750 sq m site and has large native trees such as Pūriri, Kauri, and Pōhutakawa throughout the grounds. With such a large site there is scope for areas of natural play and the space to incorporate large trees that can link into their ecological surroundings. This is an ongoing project subject to available time and funding.

UNDERGRAD STUDIES

Unitec,  Bachelor of Landscape Architecture

The fourth year of the Unitec BLA required the students to complete a conceptual plan of any area of landscape architecture that inspired them. Whaitua O Horotiu is an urban design project that investigated the sealed up WWII air raid shelter tunnels under Rangipuke/Albert Park. The analysis looked at the potential for the tunnels to be used as a cross-city, light rail passage that could join the Ponsonby to Parnell. A key feature of the project was to reinstate Waipapa market on the same Beach Road site as the previous Māori Waipapa hostel and market. This project won the Unitec  2018 Land Lab - Urban Design Award.

2015-2018

Analysis of land and the options for future use were researched through a geological, environmental and social lens. Conceptual plans were generated through drawing, model-making, and several forms of software.

FILM & TELEVISION

Art Department

2000 onwards

Since Covid came along to shake up our whānau of five million, on occasion, I’ve been prop-making for commercials and working as an art assist. Working in film and television was not a new venture as I began with freelance make-up then moved into working as a prosthetic technician at Weta Workshop for Lord of the Rings, then onto model making for Lord of the Rings. I shifted into prop-making and set-painting for King Kong, and onto several television, theatre productions and commercials.
